Music Monday - 8.21.17
Native - Kyko - Native
Kyko has consistently released great songs. I have yet to find one of his I don't like. He's still relatively under the radar but I have a feeling that won't last too much longer. Everything he puts out is just so catchy. Native is one of my favorites of his I've heard so far. It's such a fun song.
Gumption - Hans Zimmer - The Holiday Soundtrack
Have you seen The Holiday? It's my favorite RomCom. The soundtrack for the film plays a big part in my love for it. Gumption is my favorite track from the album. The song has a great mix of the overall tone of the album with these soft, emotional moments and bright, hope filled melodies. If you love a feel good movie and/or song, The Holiday is definitely a gem you should look up.
I'll Cry For The Both Of Us - Jessie Baylin - Firesight
Let me start by saying the album Firesight is great, you should do yourself a favor and listen to the whole thing. I remember buying Firesight way back in 2008 and having it on repeat for weeks. Jessie's music wasn't really the normal style I generally liked, but this album hooked me. She just has such a great voice I couldn't get over. I'll Cry For The Both Of Us has this laid back retro vibe that almost drifts into elevator music territory, I just can't help but love it.
Janey - Foy Vance - Joy Of Nothing
I've had some Foy Vance songs floating around in my playlists for years but I've never really dug into all of his stuff. Awhile back my brother showed me this song and I really loved it, ever since it's been a permanent fixture in my main playlist. Foy Vance has an amazing gift in conveying emotion through his music, this song is no different. I can't help but belt along every time I hear Janey, specifically the line "Jaded and well-guarded". Go, listen, belt it out.
Unhaunted - John Mark McMillan - Unhaunted
John Mark McMillan is predominantly known for writing How He Loves, that worship song with the lyric "sloppy wet kiss". He has so many other absolutely great songs beyond his few hits that I strongly encourage you to dig deeper into his library. Unhaunted was just released this past week, it's slightly different from his usual sound. The synth elements and the fact that it's more uptempo is a refreshing change of pace, especially paired with his low and textured vocal.
Only Us - Paperwhite - Only Us
My love for this song right now is honestly out of control. No joke, I listened to it on repeat last night for an hour on my drive home. The hook that kicks off the song is my favorite thing, followed by the punchy verse, and later the "underwater" breakdown. Paperwhite is a brother and sister duo I came across last year. So far I've loved most everything I've heard of them. I highly recommend you give them a listen.
Thanks for checking out my blog for another Music Monday. I genuinely appreciate it and hope you've found something you like. Until next time.
