Music Monday - 7.31.17

Hey all, welcome to the second Music Monday. You may have noticed last week, but just in case you missed it, you can can click on the photos for links to the songs on Spotify. Hopefully this makes it easier for you all to listen even easier. If you have any other ideas or suggestions please let me know, IG DMs is best. And now onto MM#2.

No Night, No Day - Violet Skies - This Was Us

I stumbled upon Violet Skies a few months back when one of her songs popped up in my Spotify Discover Weekly Playlist(My favorite thing about Spotify). Her album, This Was Us, released a bit later at the end of May. I heard this song and was immediately hooked. I don't have anything remarkable to say about this song, no cool facts or emotional ties, I just can't stop listening to it. I put it on repeat and just zone out. The song does have some electronic-y sounding harmony vocals in the background, I'm a sucker for those they always give me those old school Imogen Heap, Hide and Seek vibes.

Liar - LEON - LIAR

Every now and then you come across a song where everything just fits, music, vocals, lyrics... For me this is one of those songs. The strings with the swells after she sings "liar", the ad-libs during the chorus following the bridge, the riff in the melody line of the bridge. Too many things to love in this song.

Promised Land - Stephen Day - Undergrad Romance and the Moses in Me

Honestly, I am not usually a fan of chill acoustic guitar driven music, but this one is good stuff. Stephen has such a great voice, super smooth with some great texture. He reminds me of Gavin DeGraw at times. I really feel like this is one that most people are going to like, it's not quite as peculiar as some of my other song choices.

The Rules for Lovers - Richard Walters - Two Birds EP

Atmospheric and emotional songs are my jam, if you haven't noticed yet, The Rules for Lovers gets a check for both. It's a slow build that gets huge by the end and then drops back down to a place that makes this one perfect to throw on repeat. I love the glitchy stuff in the song which I honestly thought was my iphone/headphones messing up at first. It's not the most pleasant thing but sometimes I like having something in a song that kinda throws me off. Some music out there is almost too perfect at times, in my opinion it can ruin the fun. Just so you know this song has been in my playlist for 2ish years now I think and I still love it, it wins a longevity award from me.

Come To Me - Bethel Music, Jenn Johnson - The Loft Sessions

Come To Me is my ultimate go to song. I listen to this song more regularly than probably any other song ever. You wanna know where it gets me every single time? The feels, right in the feels. It's pretty much like that with every song Jenn Johnson does, but this one takes the cake. There are multiple versions out there, this particular one from The Loft Sessions album is my favorite but you really can't go wrong with any of them.
